April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month. AICR is raising awareness and providing the latest research on oral cancer prevention and sharing tips on managing nutrition during treatment. Oral cancer includes cancers of the mouth (lips, tongue and cheeks), pharynx and larynx.

Tobacco use and alcohol are the most important risk factors for this cancer. AICR’s CUP report on cancers of the mouth, pharynx and larynx found strong evidence that drinking alcohol and having excess body fat increase risk. Evidence suggests that nutrition can play a crucial role in preventing oral cancer. Having an overall healthy diet and including plenty of vegetables may be helpful in decreasing the risk of cancer.

    I returned from the 2018 Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo™ refreshed, invigorated and recharged with a passion for nutrition and cancer. This year FNCE®, a conference for Registered Dietitians, was located D.C., right in AICR’s backyard. The conference included scientific sessions and a massive expo hall.

      October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual worldwide health campaign dedicated to increase the awareness of breast cancer and raise funds for research. The AICR/WCRF CUP reports on Breast Cancer Prevention and Breast Cancer Survivorship summarize the current research on diet, nutrition and physical activity. Angela Hummel is a clinical dietitian and specialist in oncology nutrition. She gets many questions from people getting ready to start treatment for breast cancer.
